Julio

So far, I have been a chicken with her head cut off this month. It's finally catching up with me. I started a new job July 1, and have continued on at the Museum. I work Sundays and Mondays at the museum, then Tuesday through Saturday 6am-2pm at my new job. After I finish training, I'm sure I"ll be working nights.
Did I mention I'm still working on my Museum Project and my museum ed. class? I am. 6 hrs of grad school and 53.25 hours of work a week. Good idea? Not really. It's character building, right?

Isn't it so irritating when people say crap like that? Who gives a flip if it's character building? Giving your kid a brand new BMW for his 16th is also character building. I guess at least this busy schedule won't make me a total dbag.

June. Repeat of January?

I woke up to a text message informing me that my great-grandmother was in the ICU. First off, she is dealing with the same things she was in January, which is what caused the family to place her in a nursing home. She has been doing fantastic and we have all been really proud of her. She went to Laura's graduation in May (big deal because she came to Norman to sit in the house for Lindsey's {5-2007} and was unable to even go to Norman to sit in the house and wait for us for dinner at mine {12-2009}), been eating healthy, working out (or gymnastics as she calls it) three times a week, and just been doing really great.
Secondly, who sends that in a text message? My mother.

Anyway, as a follow up to Did I Just Break a Mirror?, this just adds to the 'adult storm' of life I guess.

Did I Break a Mirror?

While not always 100% successful of this, I try not to whine on this blog. Once upon a time, I wrote about interesting things like getting mugged or stalking the cute dude with the hand tattoo by accident that road the same bus line I did. Then I graduated college, moved to Tryon, hated that semester and blogged very little because of the whine factor. I started graduate school that next fall (2010), and I suppose weird adult things started happening like weird unspecific life events. That trend has not stopped.

I would like nothing more than to just put a stop on life somedays. You know how the bursar account people can put a stop on all things university, like enrollment or getting your diploma? That kind of stop? Maybe that is why I am off all day? No, that was luck of the draw, but I am glad to be at home. I've watched one episode of Burn Notice. Hopefully I can get ahead on homework, but getting any homework would be fully acceptable.

Have I paid my dues yet to this club of adult life? No? I'll keep trudging. Maybe by the time I'm 30? 5 1/2 years? Still No. 70? Surely I'll be retired by the time I'm 70. Fingers crossed. For now? My goal is to complete my two summer classes (with an A and a Pass). As for the bumps that come between today and July 27th, get ready. I'm ready to fight.

That being said, I guess I shouldn't threaten adulthood because it's been showing me who is boss. Yes adulthood, you owned me.

Evil Jungle Chicken

My sister Lindsey, roommate Francesca, and I went to Thai Kum Koon this evening. Lindsey had Himapan Chicken, tasty. Francesca had Pad Thai Chicken. I had Evil Jungle Chicken. Please try to argue about how awesome that name is. It was not as spicy as I was expecting since it was marked with a red pepper for spicy. It had a very strong coconut flavor because it was made with coconut milk. Our waitress was awesome. Our Thai Iced Tea was incredible, as was the hot tea. My Evil Jungle Chicken was $7.50 I think. I took home enough to eat it for at least 3 meals. 4 meals for $7.50. I'll be back to the tackily decorated, but authentic Thai food restaurant.

Grilled Pizza

For dinner tonight, we had Grilled Pizza. I made the crust from a recipe from my cousin Brenda. We had Classico Cabernet Marinara sauce . Then Lindsey chopped vegetables: red & green bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, and banana peppers (from the garden). It was quite delightful.

You might also have noticed, I'm feeling pretty confident in how to tag links, which is why there are so many tags.

I am also taking two summer classes that started today. One class is Museum Education, the other is Museum Project which I had to submit a project proposal. It was approved, so that is the summer plan.

Link to friend

Brooke is a good friend of mine and she writes a great blog. I sat in her bedroom floor while she composed her "Don't teach you this in High School" post. I have wanted to write an entry about a friend that recently passed, but her #7 is a short summary of what I wanted to say, so I'll just cite her.

Abril Abril.

I've been slacking.. again.

Laura was selected for an internship in Dallas, Oregon at Van Duzer Vineyards http://www.vanduzer.com/ . Since she has to have her own car, she will be driving to Oregon. The owners, OSU alums from what I understand, have made the drive many times from Dallas, Oregon to Stillwater, OK. 30 hours. yes. 30 hours. I told Laura I would help her in this voyage because that is a very long way to drive in undriven territory. When I say undriven, I mean, Laura herself has never driven it. This is not uncharted territories, duh.
We began mapping out the route last night. To be the most directionally straight, it won't all be interstate driving. I am excited about that because what do you actually get to see driving on an interstate? Concrete and angry people. Trust me, I am know this probably will not be a life changing drive, but being off the interstate will be fun. Maybe Laura & I can stop once in a while. Optimistic. I've been in a car for long periods of time with her and my other sisters. 4 angry girls and 2 angry parents have emerged. I am thinking positive that we are semi-adults now and have taken smaller, 9 hours, road trips before. I remember thinking those two different 9 hour trips would never end. This will be exciting because neither one of us have ever been through Utah, Idaho, or Oregon.
After the long journey there, I'll fly back. Laura will spend three months learning about the wine industry. During her internship, I hope she learns as much as she can. During the three months that she'll be gone on an incredible experience, I will be taking 6 hours of summer school.

6 hours in the summer, 9 in the Fall, and 6 in the Spring. That is all I have left. It's hard to believe that this seems to have gone/is going so quick. There are specific classes, bam bam bam, 2 years. Done. Undergrad was choice after choice and it seemed to never have an end date. Then pow. End date, and no job.
In my little optimistic soul, I hope that job searching will be productive.

Snowmaggedon

Yes, it is completely okay in Oklahoma to refer to 12" of snow as the Snowmaggedon, or the Snowpacolypse, or the Great Snow Down. I prefer Snowmaggedon.

As I Skype with my great friend in Michigan, she said that they received 12" yesterday. That is, 12" on top of what they already had and MSU closed for 1 day for the 1st time since 1974, putting Oklahoma to shame. In our defense, Oklahoma has far less snow than places north of here. We have days like my birthday where it is 70 degrees and wonderful. Four days later, SNOW. Oklahoma is just different all around.

My dog LOVES the snow. He is a wooly mammoth and loves to frolic. His favorite thing to do is try to get Clark to chase him. He loved having Andre chase him because Andre loves this weather as well, but Clark is kind of a diva when it comes to extreme temps. He acts like his little feetsies are going to snap off in the snow. Maybe they will someday. We could be on TV for it. sad dog story. Siri on the other hand, has bushy feet and loves, loves, loves it.

I hate cold weather. I am also a snow hater.
The end.

Bread Cut

This post will be divided into three sections: 1: Ode to January, 2: Political Shout-out, and 3: School.
Ode to January:
On this lovely Tuesday in January, I think back on the past month and wonder. I have had two people in the hospital, hectic work issues due to a local robber (thanks man), the stomach bug (the queen mother of all), bread cut on my lip (yes, true story from today), and my birthday is in 2 days. These are just a few highlights.

Political Shout-out to those shouting out:
While I enjoy politics, I do not enjoy most people that are passionate about politics. Most people that define themselves as being passionate about X issue, usually means, from my opinion, that he or she is extreme. In some cases, extreme measures and ideas are needed. All too often though, extreme people are in charge which turns off people who are only a little interested.
I did not watch the State of the Union address. I should have because I'm sure what the President had to say was interesting and insightful. While I enjoy many of his ideas, I always think back to the scene from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy where it is said that the President is just used as a distraction. Many days, I think this is true, but sometimes I wish other people thought that were true too because I don't want to hear them blubbering about how they think Obama is sending us to hell in a hand basket. Maybe so. Remember, there is always something YOU could be doing to prevent someone from crumbling, to prevent a piece of bad in the world. President Of-the-term is not the one person putting the nail in my coffin.

School:
I just spent 2 hours making syllibi for my two classes. 2 hours! I'd like to thank the departments for using a website instead of a word document. thanks. thanks. thanks.
Lots of reading coming my way. Schedule is prepared. BRING IT ON!

Project Be A Better Lacy has commenced! (B.N.I.C offered this idea. I plan to make myself better than I was last year. I'm starting with school. good place, right?)

Train

I just love hearing the train run. Unless I am stopped at the tracks, I usually wish I was on it headed somewhere.

My lappy has decided to start turning the edges up around the keyboard because of the magnet. Lindsey & Laura both have had that happen. I thought I would get lucky and not have that occur. The it decided to go ahead and do it tonight after a long week. At least I got to carpool with Brooke today (Hello, shout out!).

Classes start Tuesday. I need to buy my books and get everything organized. I cleaned my room yesterday, brought in my printer from the garage. Tomorrow after work, I need to rig up the printer, write my class intros, etc. Get ready to the Spring semester.

Train is STILL going!!

Doakes es Muy Guapo.

I've been watching, "Dexter." Laura dislikes Sgt Doakes, but I think the man is gorgeous. Dexter is a crazy show, but is quite enjoyable. I'm in season 2 and Lila needs to go. What a ho.
"This little green algae may as well be kryptonite." -Dexter.

Lindsey and I built a wall-a complete wall. It's painted and one side (kitchen side) is decorated. My room, former dining room, lacks a door and a finished closet door, but it's definitely made progress.
